I was a 15-year-old from Ludhiana, enjoying the summer holidays at my maternal grandparents' Bangalore home. I still vividly remember watching the Final on TV (in black & white, though). After all that Kapil's team had achieved on the way from Berbice to the Final at Lord's, we had started believing in the team a lot more than ever before. The team was packed with an unbelievable number of all-rounders & hence had a lot of depth & variety in batting & bowling, beside having some really cool fielders. The ingredients were there & Kapil's Devils used them to the fullest, lifting the World Cup & making the nation proud.

We were watching the match live as a huge group of 5-6 families, late at night. Did anyone even "think" about sleeping ? Of course not ! I clearly remember the celebrations that took place right after the fall of the last Windies wicket - hi5's, hand-shakes, bhangra, screams, whistles, fireworks & what not ! I was lucky to be in India then, otherwise I would have had to curb my desire for the fireworks "dhamaka" if I had been in New Zealand then. Tears of Joy could be witnessed as well. When I think of that moment even now, after 25 years, I still end up with those Tears of Joy originating from my eyes.

Thanks, Dev's Devils ! It was a thorough team-effort. Long Live Dev's Devils !

Hi,

Greate to read your post about the 83 World Cup. I was 16 then living in Bombay then and can still recall listening to the memorable innings of Kapil on the transistor with my friends. Also the semis against England and the finals win really a dream come true.

Unfortunately I can't get hold of any DVD with these matches on them so when I read about your DVD I was tempted to ask if it's not too much to make a copy and mail it or otherwise if you know of any source I could buy it from. I don't live in India any more and that's the main reason I could not get hold of any.

Let me know and I could mail you my address. You could write to me on arvinderp@gmail.com.

Thanks and regards
Arvinder

I was a 15 year old @ that time and listening to the commentry on a old Murphy 2 in 1 player along with my dad tuned in to BBC in SW.

I vaguely remember how the mood changed from being excited when srikanth was batting to disappointment at the low score of 183.

After the india innings my dad was so disappointed with the score he went to bed and wanted me to switch off the radio I was keeping volume very low and ears to the radio.

Suddenly wickets where falling and excitement growing.  I woke up my dad.

We listened with disbelief the final moments of the game.  It still is along with early morning 4.30 AM starts of the B & H cricket where I waited for our neighbour to open the door so I can watch, if you are late by a few minutes then you would miss srikanth;s batting..., some of the most memorable moments of cricket.

Even if the team wins now I am not sure it would match those moments... because then it was a dream, there was no hope for india to win...now a days we expect the team to win thanks to pepsi and hyped players.
